Perfect for embracing winter (or denying summer) these ice skating venues allow you to hire skates and hop on the ice for a graceful – or not so grateful – experience for all ages and skill levels.

In the heart of Docklands, O'Brien Icehouse is open to the public every day of the year except Christmas Day. You can book a beginner's lesson, and people of all ages are welcome to hit the ice. Or you can always just come along for a casual skate. Other facilities include the Igloo Café, St Moritz Bar and a gym.
Best for: trying something new. At the O'Brien Icehouse you can have a crack at figure skating, speed skating, ice hockey and even curling.
This Eastside ice rink is a great budget-friendly option for families, with skates included in the entry price ($28 for adults and $18 for kids). You can take part in all sorts of lessons, including figure skating, ice hockey and speed skating. Or visit on a Saturday night for a disco-themed skate sesh (and yes, they take music requests).
Best for: birthday parties. Is there anything cooler (pun intended) than a party on the ice? We think not.
At Melbourne's newest ice rink in Reservoir, you can rug up and learn figure skating, ice hockey and ice dancing. Freestyle slots are also available to show off your skills. Ice HQ also runs birthdays and school group visits. For more information, visit the website.
